Tech Myths

We are familiar with myths and it is easy to believe. These myths tend to connect to our concerns and we tend to follow or believe them instantly. In today’s blog we shall discuss the Top 10 tech myths:

  1. Mac computers are antivirus

Apple computers are susceptible to malware, too. Apple used to brag its computers aren’t as vulnerable as Windows PCs to viruses, but the company quickly changed its marketing page after a Trojan affected thousands of Mac computers in 2012.

2.Incognito browsing keeps you anonymous

If you’re using Incognito Mode in Google Chrome or Private browsing in Safari, it simply means the browser won’t keep track of your history, import your bookmarks, or automatically log into any of your accounts. It won’t keep your identity hidden from the sites you visit or your ISP, so keep that in mind if you’re visiting sites you shouldn’t be.

3. More megapixels always means a better camera

The quality of an image is determined in large part by how much light the sensor is able to take in. Bigger sensors may come with larger pixels, and the larger the pixel the lighter it can absorb.

4.More RAM means better performance

There are a lot of people who think that a higher amount of RAM in a device results in a great performance, and end up buying the wrong device. However, for smooth performance, there are several factors responsible.

5.More bars mean better network quality

Most of us still think that if our phone is showing the maximum number of network bars, it means that the quality of the network is excellent. But that’s not the actual case here. The network bars only indicate the network strength and not it is quality.

6. Installing antivirus software gives you 100% protection against viruses.

As soon as we buy a new computer, we install the latest antivirus thinking it will protect us against viruses. Although this software is effective in removing viruses from your computer system, you can’t rely on them completely as every day a new type of virus tries to attack your system.

7.Clearing background apps leads to better performance

It’s a common myth that clearing background apps will make your smartphone work faster. However, your smartphone’s operating system works differently. The OS present in your smartphone is smarter than you think, it automatically closes apps from the background as soon as it needs more resources.

8.Radiation from cell phones causes cancer

You must have heard about this common myth that says radiation from cell phones can cause cancer. People also questioned the SAR values of different smartphones, saying that the radiation emitted from them can cause cancer. However, no study was able to prove that.

9.Using smartphones at the petrol pump can lead to an explosion

You must have seen several signs at the petrol pumps which say using the phone in this area is prohibited. The reason for this caution is that a spark caused by your phone’s battery can lead to an explosion. While there was a slight chance of this happening, this is not the case anymore with modern smartphones.

10.Apps from the Play Store and App Store are 100% safe

To ensure your security, smartphones don’t allow you to install apps outside your app store. But that does not mean that apps you install from the app store or play store are 100% safe. There were many instances when these app stores removed apps from their platform because they were not secure. So, you should never install apps from unknown developers.
